A Short Break
We are off to stay in our 'little grey home in the West' later this morning so I shan't be online for a few days. The weather forecast is pretty awful but I expect we shall be seeing both the beach(10 minutes walk) and the river estuary( 5 minutes in the car and Bilbo Baggins' favourite place)since he'll have to go out regardless of the weather. The plan is to go up to the Lake District and visit Beatrix Potter's old home,Hill Top,but that will depend on how wet it is. The Lakes are only an hour away so we can go later in the summer, it's just that it will be quieter at this time of the year. As always, my knitting and cross-stitch will be going with me too.
This was taken on one of the walks I did with Bilbo last summer, it's a few miles inland and is a pretty lane with wild honeysuckle flowering in the hedgerow.
Just a couple more photos from last summer taken on the same lane, I can't remember what this is but I thought it was a beautiful architectural shape.
This the herb meadowsweet growing wild - it smells delicious.
Finally I have to blow my own trumpet here, last night when I was round at Neil and Francesca's place, Cesca said to me 'you must be the best mother-in-law in the world'. As far as I'm concerned accolades don't come much better than that:):)

Have a good break Rowan!
Gorgeous honeysuckle, Queen Anne's lace and meadsweet. How I wish ours were in bloom now, but it will be a while before they are.
Of course you are the best mother-in-law in the world, no surprises there at all!
If you have a headache, smelling meadowsweet will often help, or folding some crushed flower heads in a cold, damp flannel.
Have a fantastic break, we're off to Scotland this week, hopefully the weather is at least nice for a bit of it!
Enjoy the break Rowan, and take photos please..!
The country lanes bring back memories, and the scent of wild flowers and the sound of bird song are instantly brought back to me with your photos.
xx
Best mother in law in the world ? Of that I have no doubt..!
Cesca is a wise girl to recognize the fact.
Lucky you! I hope you have a lovely break!
Rowan, I wish I had read this post earlier!! Have a great time at your little grey house!
I know what you mean about going to the lake at this time of year. So much quieter! As if we have the place to ourselves.
Have a wonderful time. Write all about it, with photos, please, when you return!
Beautiful photos in today's post.

Have a wonderful time away, Rowan! I hope the weather is lovely and you get to see Beatrix Potter's home. I was sure Miss Potter came out today but when I went to the store, was told not until next month. :0(
I'm looking foward to hearing about your trip!

I absolutely hope that you will be able to visit Hilltop and that there are photos to share.
Enjoy your time away.
What a great place to take a break and sure hope you enjoy your self.
I am sure you will enjoy yourself. It sounds beautiful.
What a lovey compliment you DIL gave you.
Rowan - that is some compliment. I wish you were my mother in law too.
Mine said to me many years ago in anger 'you make me feel so inadequate' and that was before I was crafting or had the blog and it was very upsetting. Needless to say the two families don't have much to do with each other - she was never into little children either and would constantly tell me that.
On the other side Tom would probably say that he had the best m-in-law. Despite huge objections to my not having an arranged marriage my Mum dotes on him. Makes me proud of her.
I hope you have a restful break and come back with loads of photos to share with us.
What a beautiful comment for Cesca to say....and I'm sure it's true.
I've not visited you for too long dear...and you're gone!!!you're lucky to visit Beatrix Potter's house!!!what marvellous flowers you have...
have a nice time dear...
see you

I'm reading a biography of Beatrix Potter right now! well, it is actually languishing beneath a stack of other books & magazines...but I'm going to get right back to it so if you post lots of pixs of her home & the surrounds, I'll have a frame of reference :)
Wondering why I can't comment on your 'home' entry??? I loved it and wanted to thank you for it. But.... maybe it's me but... I can't comment there. -pout- -smile-
