I went down to Suffolk for a few days last week to visit the new addition to the family and here he is, Elisha George - just 9 days old.
Granny has been busy with the knitting needles and here is the new blanket that went with me for my new grandson. This is the third one I've made now, one for each grandchild.
Elisha's big brother Gabriel, now up and running, last time I saw him he had just taken his first wobbly steps.
Cousin Kaitlin enjoying her swing, I popped over to see her earlier this week.
It was the village Gala and Well Dressing while I was away so I took these photos this morning, I think that this year's is very good. It is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the SOS distress signal. It's worth clicking to enlarge it.
A close up of the lifeboat, you can see three little people on it if you look caerefully. The picture is made entirely of natural materials - petals, leaves, moss, bits of tree bark etc
The side with the SOS enclosed in life belts. It was adopted as a worldwide distress signal on 1 July 1908. Three dots three dashes three dots was chosen because it was the shortest three letter arrangement in Morse Code and wasn't subject to any language variations. The letters have no actual meaning in spite of the oft quoted Save Our Ship and Save Our Souls meanings attributed to them.
This is the Well Dressing done by the Guides and Brownies this year using a theme of endangered animals.

I clicked on the Lifeboat well-dressing pic, marvellous!....but you know, I thought I could see 4 people on the boat! Two on top, one at the front and one at the back waving!

My grandma knitted all of her grand children blankets all 28 of us.
I still have mine.
What a precious new arrival... And hope that big bro Gabriel will not feel any less the center of attention. I know, it's hard. But I'm sure everyone will keep letting him know that he's still very important, too. Especially Grandparents. :-)
Fantastic Well Dressing... Made of all natural materials... One doesn't hear of this being done.. that much. Reminds me of the Rose Parade Floats in CA. All natural materials...

Congratulations on the new little one, grandma. She is a beauty.
Loved the distress signal picture. It reminded me of my trip to Astoria, Oregon and the lifesaving station museum they have there.
AND, the materials are amazing. This also instantly reminded me of the Pasadena Rose Parade where all the floats are made from roses (of course) and any other naturally growing material.

What a charming custom the well dressing is! We have a city park with a natural spring. I think we need some customs to celebrate it more!!!

That lifeboat picture is amazing. I love the gypsophilla as the foam on the waves. It's staggering to think of the work that went into it.

rowan, you just melted the years away. that baby blanket- I have one I am certain is the same, that was knitted for my son by a dear old friend, now passed, when a baby.I recognise the raised four-leaf style sections! Its packed away for when we move, so i cant photograph it but its 22 years old now, and i kept it (and one other) as they were so lovely!

I love the crib blanket.. it is exactly the same pattern as my mum made my son - in 1975!! a classic gorgeous pattern and I admire you for knitting it. I can knit, but I don't ..
