Therefore all seasons shall be sweet to thee,
Whether summer clothe the general earth
With greeness, or the redbreast sit and sing
Betwixt the tufts of snow on the bare branch
Of mossy apple-tree, while the nigh thatch
Smokes in the sun-thaw; whether the eave-drops fall
Heard only in the trances of the blast,
Or if the secret ministry of frost
Shall hang them up in silent icicles,
Quietly shining to the quiet Moon.

Snow Again

"If Candlemas Day be fair and bright
 Winter will have another flight."

The old saying has proved to be true! Saturday February 2nd was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies but this morning I woke up to a white world and B Baggins and I came back from our walk looking like stand-ins for The Abominable Snowman:) We went up through Poynton Woods which looked very pretty but was treacherous underfoot as the mud hidden beneath the thin layer of snow was very slippery. I was very glad I'd taken my trusty hazel staff with me.

I haven't been around for a while, but nice to be looking in again. Glad the walk went well despite the slippery mud under the snow. I sympathise, it is not the snow per se but the substrate, either water, ice, or mud, which makes it so treacherous!!

Candlemas day is Groundhog Day here, if the groundhog sees his shadow you get 6 more weeks of winter. It was sunny here, but cloudy up north, so we're supposed to get more winter and they're not. Today it will be 70, not very wintery.
I tried making orange marmalade one year, I ended up with orange juice.

Oh! not again D.
Unfortunately, I think we are going to get some more tonight as well.

It is beautiful though. We haven't had snow since 2011. I do miss it.
Have a nice day and thaw out.

A lovely view and I was just thinking a few minutes ago about that bit of weather lore! We were out walking on Saturday and although fair and bright, it was so very cold on Birchen Edge!

Oh Rowan I really thought we'd seen the back of the snow. Am really in a Spring mood now. Your photo is lovely.

Our Candlemas was cold, cold, cold and snowy. And then...it snowed some more. But this week it's warming up again, so like you, Rowan, we'll be dealing with slippery, slippery conditions.

Hmmm!! much the same up here...with a howling gale all morning so the morning dog walk became a battle against the elements. Crazy dog loved it though. Role on spring and hopefully a little sunshine!

We had a sunny day also - but I hope that doesn't mean snow for us - usually this time of year we get one big fat snowstorm but fortunately they don't last long here. Enjoy your snow.

I suppose Candlemas Day is somewhat akin to our Groundhog Day here in the U.S. as a prediction of winter's length and severity. Love the photo of B Baggins in the snow.

I'm not sure what to make of the weather lore. It was bright and sunny when we got up and set off for Scarborough on Saturday- but it snowed when we arrived there!

I suspect we have a few more snowy sessions to come before the end of this month. :(

Well that certainly seemed to be what happened here. A lovely sunny day on Saturday and it snowed yesterday, that was soon cleared by the rain but it is so cold this morning:)

We've had more snow than we need just lately. Today it is raining in my area and it feels very slightly warmer. Roll on Spring.

Walking in the snow has something very special about it. There is a silence in snow that you never experience otherwise. I do love winter and have enjoyed having snow but must say I am ready for spring. I want to be able to go out into the garden. Jos too. Instead, I have spring bulbs in the house to remind me that spring will come eventually.

Hugs from Holland ~

Beautiful shot.;)
Yes, winter is not letting go just yet, I am in Italian Alps right now surrounded by snow, but can see that even at home it is bitterly cold.;)
Enjoy it while it lasts, spring will be here before we know it;)

Dear Rowan, it has been an age since I last visited, where has teh time flown to. I love all the snowy flurries we have been having up here in Scotland, lots of time to tuck into the studio and be inspired and lovely times for walking the woods & taking photos too. But i am ready for a breathe of Spring now i think. x

Stopping by to catch up Rowan - back from Antarctica after a fabulous trip where everything was magical and far from white and freezing much of the time!

Hope life is good dear and that you are readying for Spring! Bet B. Baggins is anxious for warmer, safer walks!
