One Hundred Years Ago
Today would have been my mum's 100th birthday, she was born on 27th August 1910. I have no photos of her as a little girl and very few of her as a young woman. This was taken when she was in her early 40s.
This is my favourite photo of my mum and I'm using it here even though it is damaged - I wonder if you can guess who tore it? :) The little girl is me of course.
My mum was just as nice as she looks in these photographs, she gave me a wonderful childhood and I miss her still. Happy Birthday Mum!

What beautiful photographs Rowan - she does look lovely and you are her double! xxxx
What a very strong family resemblence!
And a happy birthday to her from me too - don't you look alike! I too have few photos of my mum; I wonder though, if that makes them even more precious and treasured than the thousands of digital images today's generation will have?
In the second photo she reminds me of Catherine Hepbur...she was very lovely.
What lovely photographs - and memories. OH's mum was born in 1909. That seems so long ago now.
Lovely pictures. How much like your mum you look.
what lovely pictures and a gorgeous smiley mum :)
I can still see that little girl in your face, Rowan and I agree with everyone, that you certainly do look like your lovely mom!
What delightful photos, Rowan - you must treasure them. You Mum looks lovely and as others have mentioned you do look like her:)
Wonderful photos, Rowan, and what a resemblance between you and your mother! Happy birthday to your mum from across the pond.
You definitely resemble your Mom, i loved the photos and sympathize with your lack of early photos, i recently got one of my Mom as a little girl and it brought tears to my eyes. Mine was born in 1922 and has been gone 17 years now, but in my heart she'll always be there.
I love the photos! What a beautiful post!
What a super lovely Lady.
Your definitely your Mother's daughter Rowan.
Lovely to remember your Mum in this way, Rowan. And we'll forgive you for tearing the photo!
You've lost your dear mum, and that's a very hard thing, but you've gained a very special guardian angel to watch over you and those you love. If you think about it, half your genes are hers, so in a real, true way, she is always with you.
What a lovely birthday remembrance Rowan. Your Mum was beautiful. I love the cute picture where she is holding you -- what a treasure!
What a lovely photo of you and your mother! Happy remembrances of her today, and everyday.
She looks like such a wonderful lady! Such a smile.
The photograph of you two is a treasure.
Your Mum has a lovely freindly smile, I can imagine she was a very popular lady, full of life and humour.
Rowan,
I'm sure your mum had a great influence on the wonderful person you became.
I just finished reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and thought of you continually while reading it.

Very heart-warming to see and read this, Rowan!
Your head has the same lovely tilt as your mother's, Rowan. What wonderful pictures. What is it about the old black & whites that make the subject so very real. My own mother would have been 97 today. She's been gone 12 years longer than I ever knew her.
Like the others who have left comments, I'm pleased that you shared this anniversary and the photos of your Mom.
The past week was one of quiet remembrance for me: my dear Grampa Mac was born 124 years ago on Aug. 22; My Mother passed away 3 years ago Aug. 23; My Dad died one year ago on 24th Aug.
We go on missing our loved ones, thinking of them as they were in their prime of health and activity.
It is astonishing to realize that I knew someone born over 100 years ago.
Of course, and you will always miss her. Lovely post.
Not only do you look like your beautiful mother, your boys look like you. Your family must have very strong genes.
I love the black and white photos.
xx
Rowan, what lovely photos. I too agree that you resemble your beautiful mother. Just by looking at her beautiful face you can see she was a very warm and nuturing women. Thank you for sharing her with us.
Beautiful photos Rowan, I agree you look so much like your mum, best wishes Pj x
Catching up at last - have missed you. A crazy Summer since Africa - still running in circles even now!!
Just had to say how lovely this post is - your mum was a beauty and I can see you in her! Mine was born in 1911, died at age 91 - women were true ladies in their era weren't they? I loved my mum so much, she was such a good woman and mother despite the hardships of life, especially through the war years etc.
Thanks for sharing Rowan.
