Therefore all seasons shall be sweet to thee,
Whether summer clothe the general earth
With greeness, or the redbreast sit and sing
Betwixt the tufts of snow on the bare branch
Of mossy apple-tree, while the nigh thatch
Smokes in the sun-thaw; whether the eave-drops fall
Heard only in the trances of the blast,
Or if the secret ministry of frost
Shall hang them up in silent icicles,
Quietly shining to the quiet Moon.

Autumn

"Come said the wind to the leaves one day,
Come o'er the meadows and we will play.
Put on your dresses of scarlet and gold,
for summer is gone and the days grow cold."

The photograph was taken about this time last year at Canterbury Shaker Village in New Hampshire. It's always a wonderful place to visit but on this beautiful golden autumn day it was perfect.

What a pretty picture! I can't speak for NH this year, but I'm thinking it was probably a good thing you saw it last year. Our leaves were so much more colorful and beautiful last year, I can't help but wonder if it's that way all over the states.

Lovely poem and photo Rowan. If you ever want to meet up at Wentworth garden centre, I will happily be your tour guide. It would have to be on a Saturday or Sunday though - when I am off work. Let me know. Have you ever been to Wentworth at all? I'm sure you would love it (and there is always LOADS of parking) xxx

Lovely picture, I've never been to New Hampshire, New York City is about as far north as I've ever been. Do you have family over here?

I've never been to New Hampshire. Always wanted to take a tour of New England during Fall. Your photo is absolutely gorgeous!

We are looking forward to the colors of Fall here, just getting hints, so far. We've had lots of rain this year...hope that helped the color.

Beautiful and fitting. Autumn has such hint of magic to it, doesn't it?

Beautiful photo, Rowan, especially when enlarged! Thanks for sharing this memory of autumn.

The colours here are finally coming into their own now. This is a lovely photo, especially the way you caught the reflection in the water.

It's hard to beat the colours of Autumn. Everywhere has a beautifully rich look.

The opening line of that poem caught my eye in the preview window. It is one that my late Mother loved and probably used many times in her years of teaching.
I missed the New England autumn all the years of living in Wyoming.
Here in Kentucky I'm loving this first of what I hope will be many seasons of fall--a new place for us but with a beauty that seems familiar.

Hope you don't mind, but your wonderful photo went straight into the wallpaper slideshow program. A touch of fall for me to enjoy. I started to say we don't have much fall color here, but brown is a color. . .

Just beautiful - we are blessed to live in an area also so beautifully attired.

I hope so much your New England visit will be colorful again this year. Despite the intense Summer heat, we've been told North Carolina's colors will be even better than usual...........I'm off to the mountains next weekend (big blogger lunch at Penny's home - then antiquing in Asheville) and hope the trees have turned. Here in the Piedmont we will have to wait longer - however the nights are cooling off and days are now bearable thank goodness. It's just perfect and gorgeous.......windows open at night, snuggling under a duvet, heaven!!

I can imagine tucking pumpkins into a suitcase would be hard, and then of course they'd probably take them away from one at the airport!!!!

Take care - enjoy each lovely day dear one.

Did you take that photo of the Mushrooms? It is absolutely beautiful. You have such great photos on your blog.

Karen, yes, the photo of the toastools is one of mine, it was taken in autumn of 2009 in Eccleshall Woods.

Hope all is well with you and family - have missed you recently!

Today really feels like Autumn in these parts - a light rain falling through the changing leaves, acorns still hurtling through the air and now ankle deep - a rough Winter preicted due to their somewhat ominous number. The air temperature is definitely changing and the nights are cool - love this time of year though.

Hope you post some more English countryside soon Rowan.

Hugs - Mary
